Learning Environment

“We strongly support the view that teachers really do make a difference”
Prof.David Reynolds Advisor to DFEE

The impact of Personal and Professional Competencies and Teaching Knowledge and Understanding establishes a Learning Environment for both pupils and teacher.

It is sometimes very difficult to understand clearly how pupils feel about the learning environment. Accuracy in analysing this can inform the teacher's actions and improve effectiveness. School Mentor encourages and enables pupils to provide feedback on the following issues:

  • Participation
  • Fairness
  • Support
  • Safety
  • Environment
  • Order
  • Standards
  • Clarity
  • Interests

The system has been designed for a facilitator to survey pupils using a paper based questionnaire (typical age groups, range from 5 - 16 years). The subsequent report is used to identify the strengths and development areas to improve the learning environment.

This report can complement the reports from Teaching Knowledge and Understanding and Personal and Professional Competencies and explore the degree to which teacher perception and pupil perceptions match.
